Biotechnology

Established in 2002 the department ushers the student into the new world of 'Biotechnology', the emerging sunrise industry that is poised to become a major global business in the coming decade. B.E. (Biotechnology) is a multidisciplinary program involving advances in Life Sciences and Engineering. The Department offers courses in certain frontier and emerging areas of Biotechnology with orientation towards new product and process development. The sophisticated range of equipment and instruments include Phase Contrast Microscope, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), PCR, cooling Centrifuge, Rotary Evaporator,Tangential flow filteration unit, laboratory scaled Fermenter etc. The Department has been recognized as a Research Centre of Visvesvaraya Technological University,  and actively engaged in research in thrust areas like Fermentation technology, Enzyme technology, Computational Biology, Molecular Microbiology etc.

  The Department has established an excellent lndustry-Academia interaction which has been reflected in the success
  of  alumni working  in  various  industries like  Tata  Energy  and  Resources  Institute (TERI) ,  National Chemical
  Laboratory (NCL) , FDC Ltd., RadPharm  Scientific  (Australia) , Infosys Technologies Ltd , Tata  Consultancy Services
  (TCS)  etc. The  Department  has  MOU  with  Navya  Biologicals Pvt. Ltd.,  a Bengaluru  based  Biopharmaceutical  
  Company  and houses incubation centre for its research activities.
