Information Science & Engineering

The demand  for information technology  (IT)  professionals has grown rapidly in  the  last  decade . Parallel  to  this increasing  need for IT personnel  is  the continuous change in the type of skills that are brought about by innovations in cutting edge technologies. However the type of new IT skills and knowledge needed to keep companies competitive in the global market extend beyond the ability to apply the  updated   hardware and software to make business processes more efficient. Communication excellence and managerial expertise are just two of  the other more commonly needed skills demanded by employers. This encouraged our visionary Institute to take this as a challenge to meet the industrial demand. Thus the Department of Information Science and Engineering was established in year 1999 with a clear view of a forerunner in  the  field of information technology , the Department  seeks to evolve towards excellence and adapt itself to the rapid advancements in specialized  fields. The Department  focuses to provide a broad-based foundation in information technology (lT) and Software Engineering to the students who seek careers in design and develop systems involving the integration of software and hardware devices, innovative approaches to programming and problem solving as well as creative ways to use Computers ,Large  scale software systems, computing infrastructure of an organization, information service providers, human-computer interface, information system developers, information administrators and software engineers.

The curriculum of programmes have been designed to cater to the ever changing needs and demands of IT industry. The focus is on holistic learning and empowering students to make  significant contributions at all levels. The   open   elective  system  gives a handful of choices for students  to develop expertise in their area of interest.  A highly qualified, dynamic and technologically sound faculty  endow with this Department , the professional  cutting edge. It has one of the best state-of-the-art computing infrastructure including domain-specific labs associated with the above technical divisions. The department has a good record of organizing seminars, workshops, and symposia in emerging technological areas. With an objective of developing core competence in the respective subject matter specializations and special interest groups for learning newer technologies, the Department has formed the following technical  divisions namely:

  1. System Software
  2. Computer Networks
  3. Database Systems
  4. Web Technology
  5. Information Systems
  6. Theoretical Computer Science
  7.  Software System Design.
