Instrumentation Engineering
|
With the increased development of industry in the region of North Karnataka ,the awareness of high technical requirement also increased. the lack of skilled engineers in this field encouraged our visionary institute to take this as a challenge to meet the industrial demand. Thus the new horizon of knowledge, skill and employment was opened in the yea 1986 as Department of Instrumentation Technology with an intake of 40 students. The department was started with a vision of imparting quality technical education in the field of Measurements, Biomedical Instrumentation, Automation in Process Control, DSP, Embedded Systems, Sensors and Transducers, Control System and host of core subjects to meet the emerging technological needs of the industry and at the same time upgrading the knowledge of faculty in cutting edge technology so as to enable them to disseminate the value added courses to the student community. With the increasing scope in the field and to meet the industrial demand in the year 2008 student's intake was increased to 120. The department is well equipped with highly dedicated, experienced and scholarly teaching and non-teaching faculty members with a disciplined learning and teaching behavior.
The basic necessity of the industry has changed. Since necessity is the mother of all invention, keeping this industrial need in mind, the curriculum is designed to encourage our students to use all their basic and advanced subject knowledge with some common sense to understand the industrial needs .To motivate the students to design the circuits of their own, open ended experiments are introduced in the laboratory. The department is equipped with following basic and advanced laboratory that the industry demands.
The department takes the pride of having a MEMS Design Lab, a very rare opportunity provided by IISC Bangalore. This will help the students as well as faculty to carry out research in MEMS. This department is having the rare distinction of having collaboration with an embedded system company called Microcore Solutions, Bangalore and one of its branches is roofed here. All these activities are very well housed under a spacious, disciplined and dedicated premise with an area about 7576sq.ft which includes separate lab room, student project room, industry, HOD/staff rooms, independent seminar hall and all primary aminities with good safety measures. Department regularly organizes seminars and workshops on current technical topics which keeps the students aware of the ongoing trends in the field of technical education. As result of well planned curriculum and teaching assistance students are absorbed by reputed industries like Robert Bosch, Philips, Siemens, MCF, Infosys, Honeywell, Kirloskar groups and Tata Elxsi to name a few. |
